Caretaker Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Annuar Musa has announced that Kelantan will enjoy faster internet speed services and 5G network access as early as next year. He also revealed that priority was being given based on several development prospects that are in the implementation stage in the state.

As reported by Bernama, Annuar said that Kelantan will be developed as an important logistics hub in the eastern region of Peninsular Malaysia. Moreover, the government plans to make the state an international logistics service provider, thus creating job opportunities.

Annuar, who is also the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketereh also said that he has consulted with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and requested for Kelantan to be placed as a priority state for 5G broadband services. DNB reportedly agreed to the request and will immediately hold negotiations to connect the 5G tower sites being carried out in the Kota Bharu district with completion expected in early 2023.

DNB has also been instructed to hurry up and build towers in Ketereh, Peringat and Kok Lanas areas in the state. These should’ve been completed by the end of 2023 but have since been expedited to be completed by February 2023.

According to the caretaker Communications Minister, the effort provides an ecosystem to start planning Kelantan as a regional hub that can reach up to Thailand. Furthermore, the 5G towers in Peringat and Ketereh have already started working but the relevant telco companies will only roll out services next month.
