Apple AirPods Max 2 could launch in 2022 with touch controls

The Apple AirPods Max may have excellent build and sound quality, but it has its share of flaws. For one, it doesn't have a headphone jack, so you could only use it with selected devices. It did have useful features like the digital crown, but the company might ditch that with the new model.

According to Patently Apple, the company was recently awarded a patent to put touch controls on its next AirPods Max headphones. This so-called AirPods Max 2 would have the touch controls placed on the earcups, allowing users to use swipes for actions like volume up and volume down. We can also expect Apple to allow for other basic functions like play, pause, and skipping tracks.

For your info, Apple applied for the related patents years ago but is only getting it approved now. Due to the timing, Apple could launch the new AirPods Max 2 later this year. If we assume that Apple is going to make improvements, expect to see the inclusion of Hi-Res codecs like aptX or LDAC.

Mind you, this doesn't necessarily mean that Apple would launch this new model in 2022. The company may be still working on designing the product. But if it launches this year, would you buy it? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for possible updates about it.
