Apple doesn't usually specify the origins of the components in the iPhones. However, for the first time, CEO Tim Cook confirms that the company has partnered with Sony for many years "to create the world's leading camera sensors for iPhone."
The reveal comes from a tweet, accompanied by a picture of Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida showing Cook around the Kumamoto facility. Although it's not unbeknown to us that the iPhones have ties with Sony camera sensors, this is still a notable moment as it could lead to something bigger. Who knows?!

Furthermore, a recent report by Nikkei Asia offers some hints at what the companies are working on for future iPhones. According to it, Sony has developed a new image sensor that uses a new semiconductor architecture to capture more light and reduce over- and underexposure. The new sensor is suggested to get featured on next year's iPhones. Of course, other smartphone manufacturers are also likely to use it.
