Some of you may have noticed more news about smart/AI glasses this year. It's a solid indicator that many brands are hoping it could be their next big hit. Apple likely has the same sentiment for the Apple Glasses, which is slated to launch next year.
Tim Cook's top priority
According to Mark Gurman, sources within Apple have said that the Apple Glasses will launch in "late 2027". The exact timing was not confirmed, but speculations suggest it could be announced alongside next year's iPhone 19 series. It could also be during the October/November launch window, when Apple typically launches a new MacBook laptop.
Gurman previously believed that the Apple Glasses would ship early next year, but said that Apple has had issues during development. Some things could change once the current Tim Cook passes the Apple CEO baton to John Ternus. However, Gurman's sources claim that the Apple Glasses is Tim Cook's top priority before he officially retires.
Unlikely to be relevant soon?
A question many would ask is: "How relevant are these smart/AI glasses?" The smartphone became our default daily device, but smart glasses are likely going to be expensive, niche products for years to come. But Gurman believes that Apple thinks otherwise. "Over time, Apple believes the glasses could evolve into a health device and eventually incorporate augmented reality technologies capable of improving how people see," Gurman said.
If smart glasses are still years away from being relevant, does Apple really need to launch them next year? What functions would smart glasses need to justify getting one, and what price range would make them worth buying?
