Before the first wave of Apple Intelligence came, it was heavily speculated that Apple users could be charged in the next few years. Well, Apple CEO Tim Cook has debunked it in a recent interview with Wired.com.
In one part of the interview, Wired asked if Tim Cook ever considered charging customers for AI-enhanced services like some companies. The Apple CEO simply replied that the company never thought or talked about it. The reason is that they view Apple Intelligence as sort of like multitouch back then, which started the smartphone revolution and tablet.
On the other hand, Wired also asked Cook when he realized generative AI was going to be big. He replied it only came "like rolling thunder" back in 2017 as the company first built a neural engine into its products. To refresh your memory, that was when the iPhone X series was released in the markets with machine learning capabilities enabled.
Besides the iPhone 15 Pro variants and the current iPhone 16 series, that also means you can use Apple Intelligence for free on iPads and Macs with the Apple M-series chips. It is unknown when Apple will release the second wave of Apple Intelligence but the beta version is already underway.
