Malaysia prices for the Apple Macs, iPads and some other devices have officially increased, with the highest increase up to RM2600 for the MacBook Pro 14” M5 Max. It’s not that Apple didn’t warn us about it, but we were sort of expecting the price increase due to rising memory prices to just affect the upcoming Apple iPhone 18. Unfortunately for us, this also has other consequences, because everyone else may follow as well.
Memory price refresher… and consequences
If you didn’t know already, memory prices have gone up because most of the memory has been allocated for AI data centers. This leaves not enough memory for commercial products like phones and laptops. When supply is low but demand is high, prices will increase. Memory prices are only expected to decrease in 2027 or 2028.
Thankfully, there's no price increase for iPhones yet, however since Apple is such a big market leader we expect many brands to follow in their footsteps. So, if you must buy a laptop, you should buy it now (too late for a MacBook though). It could still be an opportunity for brands willing to keep their prices low or as is, but we don’t think many will.
