As speculated, Apple did indeed announce new products and it happened before midnight last night in Malaysia. It was a global launch for the new 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air equipped with an M3 chip, from a starting price of RM5199.
Compared with the MacBook Air M1 model, the new M3 models are up to 60% faster. As the name suggests, the MacBook Air laptops are thin and light designs and come in midnight (with an anodisation seal to reduce fingerprints), starlight, space grey and silver. Apple also said the new laptops have up to 18 hours of battery life, WiFi 6E with twice the speed of WiFi 6 and MagSafe charging support.
To recap the M3 chip, is built with 3nm technology and features an 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU and support for up to 24GB of unified memory. With the next-generation GPU of M3, the new MacBook Air supports hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing, offering more accurate lighting, reflections, and shadows. This includes support for AV1 decode for more efficient and higher-quality video experiences from streaming services.
On top of that, the M3 includes a faster and more efficient 16-core Neural Engine, along with accelerators in the CPU and GPU to boost on-device machine learning. The MacBook Air also supports cloud-based solutions, enabling users to run powerful productivity and creative apps that tap into the power of AI, such as Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365, Canva, and Adobe Firefly.
There's no availability date yet for the Malaysian market but if you are in the education industry, you can get the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air M3 starting at RM4729 and RM5729, respectively. To learn more about the new models, you can visit the links below:
