Apple Music and TikTok have announced a new feature called “Play Full Song,” designed to make it easier for users to listen to complete tracks they discover on TikTok without leaving the app. Launching through an exclusive partnership, the feature allows Apple Music subscribers to play full-length songs directly within TikTok after discovering them on their For You Page or the Sound Detail Page.
From Discovery to Full Listening Without Leaving TikTok
Music discovery has long been a central part of TikTok’s platform. With the new Play Full Song feature, users can simply tap a dedicated button to launch an Apple Music player embedded within TikTok and listen to the entire track.
From there, subscribers can continue listening to a personalized stream of recommended music within Apple Music while staying in the same environment. The integration also allows users to save songs directly to their music library or add them to playlists in Apple Music for future listening.
Supporting Artists Through Apple Music Streams
The feature is built using Apple’s MusicKit, meaning full-length playback is powered by Apple Music itself. As a result, music streams are counted and monetised through the Apple Music platform, ensuring artists and rights holders receive proper compensation.
This new feature builds on TikTok’s earlier Add to Music App function, which allowed users to save songs discovered on TikTok to streaming services. The Play Full Song experience takes this further by enabling instant full-song playback.
Turning Viral Discovery Into Deeper Engagement
According to Ole Obermann, Apple Music’s global head of music business development, the integration is designed to make discovering and listening to music more seamless. He explained that the feature allows fans to instantly transition from discovering a song on TikTok to listening to the full track without interrupting the experience. The partnership also creates a stronger connection between artists and listeners by converting viral discovery moments into deeper engagement with music.
TikTok Introduces ‘Listening Party’ for Real-Time Fan Interaction
Alongside the Play Full Song feature, TikTok is also introducing a new social listening feature called Listening Party. Listening Party allows fans to join real-time sessions where they can listen to songs together, interact with other fans, and engage directly with the artist hosting the session.
Tracy Gardner, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok, said the feature reflects how music culture evolves through community interactions on the platform. She noted that combining Play Full Song with Listening Party helps bring artists and fans closer together by turning shared listening moments into interactive experiences.
