Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 could come with new heart-rate sensor

In some years, you might see Apple devices without enough upgrades to impress. But this year's Apple smartwatches might pass the test in that regard. A reliable source believes that Apple would upgrade the heart-rate sensor in its next-gen smartwatches.

According to Mark Gurman (via GSMArena), the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 will feature this new heart-rate sensor. He claimed it would be a new version of the company's optical heart-rate sensor, better than the third-gen sensor in the Watch Series 8 and Watch Ultra. The new models are also expected to receive improved speed, accuracy, and efficiency in other sensors.

Besides improved sensors, the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 could get the Apple U2 chip. This ultrawide-band chip delivers enhanced "Find My" capabilities, so you can easily track the watches if you misplace them. Previously, Gurman also suggested that the Watch Series 9 could feature an Apple Bionic A15-based chipset. On the other hand, analyst Ming-chi Kuo believes that the Watch Ultra 2 could feature 3D-printed titanium parts.

Are any of these claims true? We'll find out when Apple goes live on 13 September 2023 (1AM MYT). If you're an Apple fan, stay tuned for updates here on TechNave.com.
