Today, Apple introduced a new iOS feature called Share Item Location. An extended feature of Find My, Share Item Location will help users locate and recover misplaced items easily with third parties such as airlines. This can be done by securely sharing the location of an AirTag or Find My network accessory.
Built with privacy and safety at its core, the owner can stop the shared location as soon as the item is returned. The Share Item Location can be generated in the Find My app on any iPhone, iPad, or Mac product. After generating, recipients of a link can view a website that shows the location of the item on an interactive map. When a new location is available, the website will automatically update it with a timestamp.
Share Item Location is available now in most regions worldwide as part of the public beta of iOS 18.2, which will soon be available to all users as a free software update for iPhone Xs and later. This includes Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic, and Vuelin.
SITA, a leader in air transport technology, will build support for Share Item Location into WorldTracer, the baggage-tracing system used by over 500 airlines and ground handlers at more than 2,800 airports around the world. Unfortunately, Malaysia is not part of the first wave yet but we hope this feature is in the plans for the future.
