Apple audio can't play Lossless Audio wirelessly

If you recall, Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio were added to Apple Music yesterday. But if you're hoping to enjoy them using Apple's audio products, you might be out of luck. From what we gathered online, Lossless Audio won't work with wireless audio.

According to 9to5Mac, an Apple spokesperson has claimed that Apple Music's new Lossless Audio feature won't work over Bluetooth. In other words, devices like the Apple AirPods and HomePod can't play Lossless Audio. But if you have an AirPods Max, you can use the cable to enable the feature on Apple Music. As for Spatial Audio, it should work normally for any Apple audio device that uses the Apple H1 or W1 audio chip.

The reason why Apple's Bluetooth audio devices can't play Lossless Audio is because of the codec. Apple's wireless devices only support AAC, while Lossless Audio mode requires a codec for ALAC. In general, Bluetooth devices don't support this format. Perhaps Apple's AirPods 3 or Beats Studio Buds would support this mode, but we're not sure about that yet.

Honestly, this probably isn't that big of an issue, as most audiophiles use wired headphones anyway. But with that said, have you been able to try out the new Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio yet? Share your thoughts about it in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
