Apple awarded new patent for wearable that detect gestures by scanning your veins

Wearables that can scan our veins? That sounds like some futuristic stuff, but technology is always advancing and Apple is has been awarded a new patent for a 'vein scanning device'. Supposedly, this wearable would be a watch that can scan a user's veins for gesture and finger recognition.

According to AppleInsider, an Apple Watch like this would be able to detect hand gestures by scanning the veins in our wrist. The patent describes a new system that can capture images of the user's veins in the wrist, thereby deciding whether a particular action or gesture is being performed. Based on how the user's veins are in specific hand positions, the system can more accurately guess what gesture they are may perform.

If that sounds complicated, basically what the device will do is predict what you might do by 'reading' your veins. For example, you may be lifting your arm to a position where you can see it and the watch will turn on automatically so you can read the time. There's probably going to be some machine learning aspect to it, so a chipset with AI capabilities may be included for such a device. Of course, new types of sensors would be required too.

Mind you, patents don't always turn into real products and this particular one sounds difficult to implement. But what do you think about the concept? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
