It's a yearly thing for phone brands such as Apple to announce and reveal a brand-new device. However, that could change in 2026 onwards. As per The Information, Apple could be planning to change the release cycle for the iPhone lineup.

According to the source, Apple is reportedly planning to reveal the pro variants first, which in this case are the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, in September 2026. The iPhone 18 Air and a new foldable iPhone could also join the mix, then after a few months in spring 2027 (April), the standard iPhone 18 and a new iPhone 16e updated version may be released.

Why the sudden shift in the release cycles? As you should know, Apple has already moved some of its manufacturing processes to India from China. With this, the iPhone 18 and other less expensive iPhone models will undergo manufacturing trials first. Also, splitting the iPhone 18 lineup launches is much easier to manage in terms of the number of workers.

In terms of tech specs, rumours have it that the iPhone 18 Pro variants could have a new under-display Face ID for the first time. That would mean the Dynamic Island could finally be removed and only the front camera cutout would remain. Meanwhile, the foldable iPhone may have a 5.7-inch exterior display and an 8-inch interior display when unfolded.

Of course, do take this news with a pinch of salt as there is still a long way to go until 2026. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
