Apple could make a new iPhone with the Mac Pro's cheese grater design

If you recall, Apple launched the Mac Pro back in December 2019 and it had an unusual design. The desktop looked like a giant cheese grater and the folks at iFixit even tried to see if they could do it. Now, Apple wants to repeat the design on another device.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple has filed a new patent for an iPhone that features the Mac Pro's design. The plan is to use two opposing surfaces with cavities that would then intersect, forming a pattern that looks like a cheese grater. Apple claims that the design can provide "enhanced heat removal compared to traditional housing". This is thanks to the increased airflow that the device would receive.

However, such a design comes with an obvious problem. If Apple really goes with this design, then the resulting iPhone will probably lack water resistance. Current models all have water resistance to a point, so this would mean going backwards. Of course, it's also possible that Apple would work around that problem.

Mind you, designs and ideas that are patented aren't always implemented. For all we know, we may never see an iPhone with this design. Having said that, do you find it impractical or would you be interested in an iPhone like that? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
