Google has dominated the search engine area in the past two decades. However, that might change soon. A leak suggests that Apple is working hard on developing its search engine.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the idea of a new search engine has been in Apple’s plans for years. The report also reveals that it’s going to take a while before we see it. However, that might change if its internal search technology improves drastically.

In addition, the company is testing this technology on a smaller scale between some of its apps. Notably, you can see Apple’s effort through “Spotlight”. In case you are not familiar with iOS, this feature helps you find things across your devices. The report writes:

“A couple of iOS and macOS versions ago, Apple started adding web search results to this tool, pointing users directly to sites that might answer their questions. At different points in time, those results were powered by either Microsoft Corp.’s Bing or Alphabet Inc.’s Google. Siri also uses that technology to offer up web results,”

Moreover, there was also a rumour about Bing's acquisition by Apple. The takeover didn’t happen, but it is interesting to see what the American giant has in store. Plus, it is also fun to see how iOS users in Malaysia will react if Apple has its search engine.
