Former Apple design chief Jony Ive is no longer affiliated with Apple after the tech giant decided to not extend its consultation contract with his design firm, LoveFrom. Thus, both parties have now agreed to stop working together, ending a relationship that had lasted for over 30 years.

As reported by The New York Times, Apple signed a multiyear contract with Ive after his departure from Apple in June 2019. The tech giant then became one of LoveFrom’s primary clients, whereby Ive’s design firm was a consultant for Apple products, such as the 24-inch iMac and even gave guidance on the Apple Car design.

The multiyear contract with Ive was allegedly worth over ~RM443 million and restricted Ive from working with Apple’s competitors. Furthermore, the expensive contract allegedly caused ire from Apple executives, who also become frustrated after Apple designers left the tech company to join Ive’s design firm.

Ive was also rumoured to want freedom to choose his clients and not be restricted by the consultation contract with Apple, thus the mutual decision to not extend the contract occurred. Well, all good things must come to an end, I guess.
