A while back, it was rumoured that Apple has been working on two foldable iPhones prototypes. Supposedly, it would also have an under-display fingerprint sensor and will launch in 2022. However, the latest rumours suggest a different launch window.

According to Jon Prosser, Apple may prefer the clamshell design out of their two prototypes. Samsung is expected to be the company helping to manufacture the OLED foldable display for the device. Prosser also pointed out that the project is not far along, so a launch in 2022 is very unlikely. At the earliest, this device might launch sometime in 2023, or perhaps even later.

If you ask me, the display panel, hinge design, and size or form factor could be why Apple would prefer a flip phone. This could also be related to the product's intended target audience. Allegedly, Apple will be offering this foldable clamshell iPhone in fun colours. This suggests that the product could be marketed more towards the younger crowd.

Mind you, we can't confirm if Apple has finalised the design. There's still a chance that Apple would change their mind and switch things out. Having said that, would you be keen on a clamshell foldable iPhone? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to TechNave for more news.
