There are still some more months to go for the annual Apple Event to see the next-gen iPhones. Besides that, the next iOS 18 will also be launched alongside, and many reports have claimed that it will feature several AI functions. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, here are the things that we can look forward to.

In his latest Power On newsletter, one of the intriguing iOS 18 features is allowing iPhone users to change the app icons' colours. For instance, Gurman said, "You can make all your social icons blue or finance-related ones green". Moreover, he added that iPhone users can have the freedom to place app icons and widgets anywhere. Better late than never.

As for the rest of the Apple AI features, Gurman said they all offer practical tools that iPhone users can use. Below is the official list of what to expect:

  • Photo retouching
  • Voice memo transcription
  • Suggested replies to emails and messages
  • Auto-generated emojis based on the content of a user's messages, providing all-new emoji for any occasion beyond the existing catalogue
  • Improved Safari web search
  • Faster and more reliable searches in Spotlight
  • More natural interactions with Siri
  • A more advanced version of Siri designed for the Apple Watch, optimized for "on-the-go tasks"
  • Smart recaps of missed notifications and individual messages, web pages, news articles, documents, notes, and more
  • Developer tools for Xcode

On paper, the Apple AI features on the list sounds exciting but it also appears that not all are ready yet. Gurman also mentioned that many of the tools will be in the beta preview versions first before officially launching. If true, looks like we may have to wait a bit longer for those.
