Based on the latest leaks, Apple iPhone 17 Air may feature a 2900mAh battery and an incredibly slim 5.5mm chassis—making it potentially the thinnest iPhone to date.
The device is expected to debut between 8 and 10 September 2025, with a starting price of around USD 800, which is approximately RM3600 in Malaysia.
Ultra-thin battery spotted in new live images
New images reportedly from a Naver blog in South Korea show what appears to be the iPhone 17 Air’s battery placed side by side with that of the iPhone 17 Pro.
The leaked unit appears to be just 2.49mm thick, including its steel enclosure—almost half the thickness of the Pro model's battery. This aligns with earlier claims that the iPhone 17 Air will have a body thickness of only 5.5mm.
The battery capacity is now expected to be 2900mAh, slightly higher than the previously estimated 2800mAh. Apple is said to be using a steel casing similar to the one in the iPhone 16 Pro, which helps with thermal management and improves energy density.
Despite the smaller battery, Apple is expected to optimize power usage through iOS 26 and a new Adaptive Power mode. These enhancements may help users get through a full day of usage.
Although reports suggest that only 60 to 70 percent of users might be able to do so—compared to 80 to 90 percent on other iPhone models. Apple may offer a battery case as an optional accessory to help extend usage time.
Apple iPhone 17 Air set to replace iPhone 16 Plus
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace the iPhone 16 Plus in Apple’s lineup. It will likely be launched alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
While the iPhone 17 Air’s slim form factor and lightweight design are expected to appeal to style-conscious users, concerns about battery life could be a consideration for those who rely heavily on their devices.
For users in Malaysia, the balance between sleek design and battery endurance may be a key factor, especially given the local climate and day-to-day mobile usage needs.
