A device believed to be a prototype of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro has reportedly been spotted in public. This image was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user Skyfops and later commented on by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The image shows a person holding two iPhones—one appearing to be the current iPhone 16 Pro, and another encased in a thick black shell, potentially concealing the iPhone 17 Pro.
If accurate, the iPhone 17 Pro could be shaping up for a significant design overhaul. Early pricing speculation suggests it may start around USD999, which converts to approximately RM4600 to RM4800.
Possible design changes spotted
The spotted device includes a large rectangular camera module with circular cutouts, possibly aligning with the LED flash and LiDAR sensor layout expected for the upcoming model.
The protective case used in the image appears to hide much of the rear panel, a common method for disguising prototypes under development.
This sighting aligns with earlier rumours that the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a vertically-aligned camera system, a first for Pro models since the iPhone X.
The camera arrangement is expected to run down the left side of the rectangular bump, with the flash and LiDAR on the right. The Apple logo is also rumoured to be repositioned lower on the back panel.
Rumoured features and upgrades
According to previous reports and leaks, Apple may introduce several notable upgrades across the iPhone 17 lineup. These include:
- A new rectangular camera housing with vertically stacked lenses
- Redesigned rear casing using a combination of aluminium and glass
- Relocated Apple logo for better visual balance
- A physical "Camera Control" button along the top edge

- New professional camera features, possibly through a dedicated app
- A19 Pro chipset with 12GB RAM and vapor chamber cooling
- Wi-Fi 7 support and up to 25W wireless charging with Qi 2.2
The iPhone 17 Pro is also expected to retain a 6.3-inch 120Hz display and improved battery performance, potentially offering longer usage hours thanks to more efficient internals.
