Apple is removing some Arcade games because they are not 'engaging' enough

It's no secret that mobile game apps are doing very well in the Asian region compared to the West, business is booming and more attractive mobile game titles are being made for the market. Many of them can be downloaded for free on the Google Play and the Apple App Store, but the Apple Arcade has games that are exclusive and they aim to keep it that way with some new tweaks.

So what are the new "tweaks"? Well, according to Bloomberg, Apple is apparently terminating some games that are in development. This may sound counter-intuitive, but the company believes that this new strategy can help retain subscribers better with better games instead of wasting resources on "average" games. To Apple's definition, average means that the mobile game did not reach the level of "engagement" which Apple expects.

So in other words, by scrapping off those average games, the Apple Arcade (in theory) will have quality games that are made for long term usage. On top of that, anonymous developers also told Bloomberg that Apple Arcade have not been getting the expected amount of subscribers recently so perhaps it's why they are trying this new approach. Even though the developers' contract got cancelled mid-way, Apple still paid them according to the milestones they reached. Moreover, the company is still keen on working with them as long as they have new ideas on engaging mobile gamers on a long term basis.

In Malaysia, the Apple Arcade cost RM19.90 per month after the free trial. While Malaysians generally don't like the idea of a subscription-based service that they rarely use, but the Apple Arcade games are void of intrusive ads, can be played offline with no microtransactions which is an enticing invitation.
