Apple may soon release an ‘AirPods Lite’ to compete with affordable wireless earbuds

Since the introduction of the first-generation AirPods and the ‘brave’ decision to get rid of the audio jack back in 2016, Apple has pretty much started the wireless earbuds trend that we see in the market today. While the AirPods lineup has been pretty popular and sold millions, it looks like the tech giant is not fully satisfied and may be looking into entering the budget wireless earbuds market as well.

As reported by 9to5Mac, Haitong Intl Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu claims that Apple is now in the midst of developing a new ‘AirPods Lite’ to compete with cheaper wireless earbuds. He further elaborated that the product would be “lower priced” so as to compete with non-Apple earbuds.

Pu claimed that based on sources from the industry, demand for AirPods is expected to drop this year, whereby it is forecasted to ship 63 million units instead of the 73 million recorded last year. This may be due to ‘soft AirPods 3 demand’ combined with the potential of Apple not releasing any new AirPods this year.

Of course, do take this information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet. Well, if it were to be true, it would be interesting to see how Apple would implement a much cheaper AirPods model and whether the price would actually be affordable or not.
