According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to overhaul Siri later this year by turning the digital assistant into an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. So, what should you know about it?
A new project named Campos
For your information, this project is codenamed "Campos" , this chatbot is said to be integrated into iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, thus replacing the current version of Siri . In terms of usage, it is expected to offer natural language conversation functionality like other chatbots, including ChatGPT.
Additionally, users can still access it by saying "Siri" commands or pressing and holding the side button on an iPhone or iPad. According to Mark Gurman, this "newer" Siri in iOS 27 is a follow-up upgrade from the "new" Siri expected to arrive in iOS 26.4. In short, Apple is said to be introducing two separate changes to Siri, one in iOS 26.4 and the other in iOS 27.
Moreover, this chatbot version of Siri is likely to use Gemini with TPU support and Google's cloud infrastructure. This means that the model is expected to be much more powerful than the version of Siri that will arrive in iOS 26.4, which runs on Apple's servers.
Previously, Apple was reportedly quite reluctant and deliberately avoided launching a chatbot, even stating in several interviews that they were not interested in the concept. However, ChatGPT, which now has over 800 million users, as well as Gemini, are seen as proving that Apple needs to move faster in that direction.
