Apple might need to ditch the Lightning connector by July 2020 in the EU

Based on a statement by the EU Parliament, it seems that Apple might be required to ditch their proprietary Lightning connector in favour for a more commonly used connector which is the USB Type-C connector. The iPhone manufacturer will be required to adopt the new standard latest by July, this year.

However, Apple mentioned that switching over to the USB Type-C connectors cause a lot of electronic waste due to the fact that any accessories that utilize the Lightning connector will be obsolete.
