Apple has officially discontinued the Mac Pro, marking the end of its long-running professional desktop lineup. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the Mac Pro has been removed from Apple’s website, with the product page now redirecting to the broader Mac lineup.

End of an Era for Apple’s Flagship Workstation

The Mac Pro has been a staple of Apple’s professional computing lineup since its debut in 2006. Over the years, it evolved through multiple designs, including the controversial cylindrical model and the later return to a modular tower design. Its final iteration, released in 2023, was powered by Apple’s M2 Ultra chip but retained the same chassis introduced in 2019. With its discontinuation, Apple has confirmed that there are no plans to develop a future Mac Pro model.

Limited Updates Signalled the End

The Mac Pro had not seen a major redesign since 2019, and its last update in 2023 focused mainly on transitioning to Apple silicon. Despite retaining PCIe expansion slots, the device lacked support for external GPUs, which reduced its appeal among some professional users. At the same time, other Macs began offering comparable performance without the same level of complexity or cost.

Mac Studio Takes Over As Apple’s Pro Desktop

Instead of continuing the Mac Pro line, Apple is positioning the Mac Studio as its primary high-end desktop solution. The Mac Studio offers similar or even greater performance in a more compact form factor, powered by newer Apple silicon chips such as the M3 Ultra. It also comes at a significantly lower price point compared to the Mac Pro’s previous starting price of $6999 (RM8999 in Malaysia).

With the Mac Pro now discontinued, Apple’s desktop lineup is streamlined into three main products. These include the iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio, covering a range from mainstream users to professionals. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
