Apple planned to release iPad made of plastic with a cheaper price

According to a report, Apple was going to release a plastic version of the iPad. However, the company didn't carry out the plan and released the 10th generation of iPad, mainly built on aluminium. It's said that the tech giant would have made the tablet cheaper and more competitive.

The information came from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. It's mentioned that Apple's team apparently discussed bundling a plastic iPad. The device would have a low-cost plastic keyboard accessory, but still, Apple might sell it separately for less than $500. In a newsletter, Gurman claims that the idea is to challenge the position of Chromebooks in the market. Not only taking the market share but also making the tablet a new standard in learning environments.

Furthermore, sources suggest that Apple's current strategy may focus on creating customer demand. The product itself will ensure quality, while users can get optimized experiences by purchasing different accessories. However, if Apple started to offer budget tablets made of plastic, they could slowly erode other products, which would eventually be at the expense of premium hardware.
