Apple today released a security update for iPhone and iPad to address a vulnerability in Notification Services that could cause old notifications to remain stored even after they have been deleted. So, what should you know about it?

Apple said the security flaw has been addressed

For your information, the bug, tracked as CVE-2026-28950, was fixed in iOS 26.4.2 (23E261) and iPadOS 26.4.2, as well as iOS 18.7.8 (22H352) and iPadOS 18.7.8. Apple stated that the security vulnerability had been addressed through improvements to the data redaction process, but no further details were disclosed.

According to MacRumors, Apple became aware of the issue after court testimony revealed that the FBI was able to access an iPhone's notification database to obtain previews of Signal messages. Even though the app had been deleted and the messages were set to automatically disappear, the content was still stored in the notification system long enough for the FBI to access it.

Additionally, you can install the update OTA ( over-the-air ) via Settings > General > Software Update > Update Now.
