According to a new report from MacRumors that cites insights from Mark Gurman, Apple could be preparing its most dramatic iPhone redesign to date. The overhaul is expected to center around Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone, which is being positioned as a major leap beyond previous milestone devices.

Foldable iPhone Tipped as a Game-Changer

At the heart of the report is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which could mark a completely new direction for the product line. Gurman describes the device as potentially the most significant overhaul in the iPhone’s history, surpassing major turning points such as the iPhone 4, iPhone 6, and iPhone X.

The device is expected to adopt a book-style folding design similar to offerings like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, featuring a large internal display paired with a smaller outer screen for everyday use. This shift would represent a clear departure from Apple’s incremental design updates in recent years.

To support the new form factor, Apple is reportedly working on software enhancements tailored for foldable use. The experience is expected to lean heavily toward iPad-style multitasking, allowing users to run apps side by side and take advantage of a larger canvas for productivity, media consumption, and gaming. These features are likely to arrive alongside iOS 27, which is said to include optimizations specifically designed for foldable devices.

Display, Cameras, and Hardware Details

Early details suggest the foldable iPhone could feature an inner display measuring around 7.7 inches, complemented by an outer display of approximately 5.3 inches. On the hardware side, the device is rumoured to include a dual-camera system on the rear, along with a single front-facing camera.

Apple may also opt to integrate Touch ID into the power button instead of relying on Face ID. And on the other hand, it is also reported that the company is working to reduce the visibility of the crease on the foldable display, although it may not be entirely eliminated.

Launch Timeline and Pricing Expectations

The foldable iPhone could debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, though its release timing may differ slightly. Current expectations point to a potential announcement in September 2026, with availability possibly arriving later than the standard Pro models. Pricing is rumoured to start at around $1999 (~RM8K), which would make it the most expensive iPhone to date.

What This Means for Users

If these prove accurate, the iPhone experience could change in a meaningful way. A foldable design would introduce new possibilities for multitasking and media consumption, while also pushing the device further into the premium category.

For now, the report offers an early glimpse into Apple’s long-term direction, hinting at a future where the iPhone evolves far beyond its current form. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
