As Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 approaches, speculation is mounting that the company may unveil a new smart home device, tentatively dubbed the 'HomePad'. This device is anticipated to be a hybrid between a HomePod speaker and an iPad, featuring a built-in display and running on a new 'homeOS' platform.
Features and Functionality
The HomePad is expected to serve as a central hub for smart home management, combining the audio capabilities of the HomePod with the interactive features of an iPad. Rumours suggest it will include a 6- to 7-inch LCD touchscreen, enabling users to control smart home devices, perform FaceTime calls, and access various applications. The device may also support Apple Intelligence, enhancing its AI functionalities.
Launch timeline
The HomePad was originally slated for a March release but was postponed due to delays in Apple's AI-driven Siri enhancements. So far, this news has been consistent and in line with previous reports, mentioning the same thing about combining the HomePod and iPad.
Unveiling the HomePad at WWDC could be a strategic move for Apple. This will allow the company to spotlight the device without the competition of other major product announcements typically reserved for the September event, such as new iPhones and Apple Watches.
While Apple has not officially confirmed the HomePad, the convergence of rumours and strategic timing suggests that WWDC 2025 could be the platform for its introduction. The event is scheduled to begin on 9 June 2025 and will be live-streamed globally.
