Apple's Spatial Audio is rolling out to select Mercedes-Benz models

It has been a while since Apple announces Spatial Audio, and it's now making its way to cars. However, not every model will get it, as only those select electric and luxury models from Mercedes-Benz are.

The feature will be available in select EQS, EQE sedans and SUVs (including the new EQE SUV) alongside Maybach and S-Class vehicles. Not only that, but the models also need the MBUX interface and optional 31-speaker Burmester 3D or 4D sound systems. It is an option that starts at $4,550 (~RM21,460) on top of the price of the vehicle in the U.S. However, those who do not own these car models could wait a while, as Mercedes mentions that it's coming to other models "soon".

Apple Music's Dolby Atmos implementation creates a 3D soundstage by spreading sounds across different channels, but the effect's level depends on a song's mix. For Mercedes implementation, the spatial audio effect will come from six of the 31 speakers located above the driver. Other speakers include four near-ear speakers in the front seats, eight sound transducers (two per seat) and two amplifiers that pump out 1,750 watts of power.
