Apple's first mixed reality headset expected to arrive in April 2023

Apple's first mixed reality (XR) headset could see the light sooner than we thought. According to the latest report, the device would enter mass production in March 2023, with the launch scheduled for April.

The information comes from DigiTimes. It's said that Chinese contract manufacturer Pegatron is expected to be the primary supplier for the device. Furthermore, it will only produce limited units in the first year, somewhere around 700,000 to 800,000, lower than previous estimates of 2.5 million units. Such a low supply value will not be profitable for Pegatron, but fulfilling the order will help it secure future AR/VR products.

Apple already trademarked the name 'Reality One', which could belong to its MX headset project. Previous reports also suggested a January 2023 announcement followed by pre-orders in Q2 and open sales around June's WWDC. No matter which date, we're still glad that the headset will arrive next year after all.
