Apple's next iMac could be an all-in-one with a keyboard built into it

Looking at the patent image, you are probably wondering why. But Apple may just be thinking of creating a new all-in-one (AIO) iMac, which has its display and keyboard built into a sheet of glass. As you can see, it curved off at some point to allow for space to accommodate a keyboard at the bottom part of the glass sheet. This may be the beginning of an ambitious new design from Apple.

According to Patently Apple, this patent was filed to the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). The AIO will also come with a support structure behind the display. This is where the hardware components like CPU and RAM, as well as connectivity ports, are meant to be stored. Other things to note is that the support structure is also supposed to house speakers. Also, the right rest area on the front is said to 'detect touch inputs', which likely means that it's a trackpad.

The filed patent also illustrates a variety of other concepts that are not directly related. One has the bottom part of the glass folding up, ostensibly for easier storage. A second, rather unrealistic one shows an opening in the glass sheet where an Apple laptop can be docked into. There's also one where the keyboard seemingly detaches from the glass.

Will Apple actually make this anytime soon? We're not sure, but it's nonetheless an interesting concept. What do you think about it? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
