The Mac Pro is still waiting for its transition to Apple Silicone and given the machine’s standing in the Mac hierarchy, it will definitely feature the most powerful Apple in-house chipset yet. In fact, according to reliable tipster Mark Gurman, the Mac Pro will feature new and extremely powerful SoCs nicknamed the “M2 Ultra” and “M2 Extreme”.

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said that the SoCs are “at least twice or four times as powerful” than the yet-to-be-released M2 Max. Furthermore, Gurman claims that the M2 Ultra will pack 24 CPU cores and 76 GPU cores and the M2 Extreme will feature a whopping 48 CPU cores and 152 GPU cores. both are touted to have 256GB of memory.

For context, the base M2 SoC found on the MacBook Air and Macbook Pro 13 has 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. Hence, the new Mac Pro will undoubtedly be the most powerful computer in Apple’s lineup when it launches.

Speaking of which, according to Gurman, the new Mac Pro is expected to launch next year and Apple is currently ramping up its testing of the machine. Of course, do take this information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet.
