A new report says that Apple has started producing iPads with OLED panels, and they would offer a lightweight design and improved image quality. According to ET News, the prototypes are being produced with Korean display partners Samsung and LG Display, which allows the tech giant to conduct a series of tests.

To offer a lightweight iPad with OLED, Apple adopts a dry etching process that significantly reduces the weight of the display. The company did not use this etching process to make the iPhone's OLED panel lighter since it already offers a weight reduction compared to previous iPhones with LCD displays.

Besides that, it's said that Apple is also developing a special coating to increase the display's durability. If the rumours were to be trusted, the first OLED ‌iPad‌ models would include an 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro and launch in 2024.
