As Apple introduced several software features for its product lineup, the AirPods are also getting new updates. This includes studio-grade audio recording, a camera remote, and new communication tools for the AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC, and AirPods Pro 2.
Studio?Quality Audio on the Go
From the WWDC presentation, the update enables studio-quality audio recording via AirPods. Leveraging the H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and computational audio, this feature delivers richer vocal clarity, even in noisy environments, by extending Voice Isolation technology to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Voice Memos, FaceTime, and various third-party apps.

Capture Photos and Video Remotely
AirPods users will be able to control their device camera hands-free. A press-and-hold gesture on the AirPods will trigger photos or begin/stop video recording when paired with compatible camera apps on an iPhone or iPad.
Cleared-Up Voice Calls
Enhancements also extend to calls. Audio across native Phone, FaceTime, and CallKit apps will feature improved voice capture thanks to advanced computational audio, offering clearer and more natural-sounding calls.
Availability Timeline
Like the other software updates, the developer preview is now available on the Apple Developer Program. The public beta will be launched in July through the Apple Beta Software Program, and its full release will arrive this fall as a free firmware update, bundled with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26.
