Apple was fined ~RM48.7 million by AGCM for misleading water-resistance claims

The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) has fined Apple €10 million (~RM48.7 million) for misleading water-resistance claims in their ad. The regulator said the company was not being clear enough about these claims. These claims can only be done in certain circumstances, such as controlled lab tests with pure water.

Besides that, the regulator also disagreed with Apple's warranty as they wouldn't cover for liquid damage. This made the authorities think that Apple was being dishonest about the water-resistance feature by denying warranty service.

On top of that, the company also promoted several iPhone ads showing that it can immerse underwater for up to 4 meters (depending on the model) and up to 30 minutes. The iPhone models include the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
