This year, all of Apple's operating system version numbers are skipping straight to 26 to standardise and reduce confusion. Next up is the name of the iPhone that will be launched in 2027. It was supposed to be called iPhone 19, but according to GSMArena, Apple will skip straight to iPhone 20.

A change because of its 20th anniversary

For your information, this is because in 2027, the iPhone will celebrate its 20th anniversary. In conjunction with this significant anniversary, the device's name will be aligned with its age.

Additionally, this is not a strange move because Samsung has since 2020 standardised the Galaxy S series numbers in line with the year it was launched. Xiaomi also does the same, but only according to the iPhone version number.

There have been many rumours about the iPhone 20, such as it will be offered without a charging port and only support MagSafe. There are also rumours that the first foldable iPhone will also be launched in conjunction with the 20th anniversary.
