Astro Slide is a hybrid device that aims to bring back the QWERTY keyboard

In a world of unibody smartphones with a dash of foldable ones, seeing something completely different is always refreshing. This is exactly what Planet Computers has in mind with the Astro Slide, a new hybrid smartphone that has surpassed the 490k Euro (~RM2.3 million) mark in funding on Indiegogo.

The Astro Slide is a 5G smartphone that can double as a pocket computer. It has a sliding mechanism that lets the screen move aside to reveal a QWERTY keyboard, which should let you type faster or at least seem like it's faster. Mind you, this isn't a new concept as we've seen similar models from years ago, such as the HTC G2. However, it IS a much better-looking device.

In terms of specs, this is a mid-range phone powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chipset and 6GB of RAM. It also comes with 128GB of internal storage, a 6.53-inch display, 4000mAh battery, 48MP rear camera, and 24MP front camera. Although it doesn't have a fancy rear camera setup, it gets points for the hybrid form factor.

Regardless, we're unsure if this crowdfunding project means we'll see the device becoming a reality. Even if it does, it's something that only those feeling nostalgic for QWERTY keyboards would want.
