Vehicle workshops were allowed to operate twice a week during phase 2 of the movement control order (MCO) depending on local council’s approval. Yesterday, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) has clarified that vehicle workshops and car parts centers are allowed to fully operate during phase 3 of the MCO period.

The ministry said those providing after-sales services were among those given exemptions to open. After-sales services include car assembly plants, operations of maintenance and service of vehicles within the country, tyre workshops for vehicles, logistics services such as transportation of automotive parts and components as well as vehicle spare parts center and stockists supporting.

However, spare parts centers and car assembly plants can only conduct distribution to service centers upon approval from Miti. According to the frequently-asked-question (FAQ) sheet, other than the aforementioned after-sales services are strictly prohibited from operating during the MCO period. This includes all authorized dealer service centers, manufacturers’s service centers as well as independent workshops.

With that said, if you have a breakdown, you will be able to get your vehicles to the workshops during this MCO period. But do remember to practice social distancing and keep your hygiene well taken care of at all times. Stay tuned for more local news updates on TechNave.com!
