Communications and Multimedia Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has today announced that applications for the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia programme will be opened in mid-April. A package specifically crafted for tertiary-level education students from the B40 group, PerantiSiswa offers free mobile devices and internet access for their studies.

Announced during the tabling of Budget 2022 last October, the initiative would benefit around 400000 Malaysian students from either the public or private institutes of higher learning (IPT). Furthermore, the initiative was introduced to help students attend online learning activities, surf the Internet for research purposes and even send messages to stay connected with their families and friends.

According to a report by national news agency Bernama, Annuar said that to be eligible for PerantiSiswa, students must come from families whose parents earn less than RM4850 a month. He was quoted of saying the above during his speech in the Dewan Rakyat earlier today.

The devices are expected to be distributed to students starting from the first week of June 2022. During his speech, the Communications Minister also said that the mobile devices will entail at least 4GB of RAM and a 10.1-inch display.
