BOE Technology recently announced that they’ve made the world’s first display with a 500Hz+ refresh rate. Offering a 27-inch screen with FHD pixel resolutions, the prototype display still doesn’t have any name just yet but it will use a high mobility 0xide  backplane and support 8Lane eDP output, true 8 bit output and feature a 1ms response rate.

Since it is a prototype, BOE have not mentioned whether it will actually be mass produced anytime soon, but those who have tried displays with higher refresh rates than the standard 60Hz often say that such displays are smoother with clearer details. Quite often, these higher refresh rate displays are better for those who game but designers and other graphic fields can also benefit from higher refresh rate displays as well.

No Malaysia release rates or pricing details just yet but while BOE is a China company, their displays have been used by brands worldwide. We think that as a proof of concept, this is a good first step, but we should probably wait for the resolutions and display sizes to increase  before making any plans.

What do you think? Would you be interested in a 500Hz display? We’re thinking it has to be at least 32-inches but how big would you want it to be before you’d want to get one? What would you use it for? Let’s discuss on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com
