According to Paultan, BYD Malaysia has confirmed that it will be bringing its Megawatt Flash Charging fast charging technology to the local market. This technology is capable of charging the battery from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, with a power output of up to 1,500 kW (1.5 MW). It uses a 1,000-volt architecture and an advanced cooling system, allowing for an additional range of around 400 km in that time.

Initial rollout will start at selected Denza showrooms and service centres

BYD Malaysia Managing Director, Jacob Ma said that, the Megawatt Flash Charging facilities will also be available to other non-BYD brands in the future. However, for now, only EVs with BYD's Super e-Platform can use it and even then, only a few can actually reach 1 megawatt, so the technology is still very new.

The announcement is in line with BYD's global strategy of expanding its ultra-fast charging network. In China, the second-generation Flash Charging technology is already widely used with the new generation Blade Battery. The launch in Malaysia is still in the planning and research stages. BYD has not announced an official date, exact location or pricing for the charging service.

Additionally, the arrival of Megawatt Flash Charging is expected to attract many enthusiasts who want to own a BYD EV in Malaysia, as 5 minutes to charge an EV is almost the same time as it takes to fill a normal ICE vehicle with petrol. Personally, we feel this is good news for BYD EV owners in Malaysia. After all, it can help them save a lot of time while charging. What are your thoughts on the news?
