We're seeing more EVs in Malaysia, but most are either sedans or hatchbacks. Of course, electric SUVs are also slowly emerging. In fact, BYD just launched one earlier today. Say hi to the BYD Sealion 7.
The BYD Sealion 7 is an all-electric SUV and the fifth EV from BYD made available in Malaysia. Sime Darby Beyond Auto launched the vehicle at the TRX Exchange this morning, with two variants confirmed for the Malaysian market - Premium and Performance. The Premium variant is priced at RM183800, while the Performance variant has an RM199800 price tag. Both variants are available in Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey and Shark Grey.
The Sealion 7 measures 4830mm x 1925mm x 1620mm (length x width x height), with a wheelbase of 2930mm. It's a moderately sizable car with a design inspired by Audi's original designer, Wolfgang Egger. It has distinctive features like the C-shaped headlights, large air intakes and fully LED taillights.
In terms of performance, the Premium variant has a single rear motor that produces 308 horsepower, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. On the other hand, the more powerful Performance variant has two motors that produce 523 horsepower. As a result, it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Both variants use an 82.56kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP), delivering a driving range of up to 567km and 542km for the Premium and Performance variants, respectively. Inside, the BYD Sealion 7 sports a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, and a Dynaudio sound system with 12 speakers.
