This week, BYD has made a new breakthrough technology for electric vehicles (EVs). For the first time ever, the EV company has announced a new "super e-platform" that will be capable of fast-charging an EV with speeds of 1,000 kW.
A thousand kW charging speed can enable an EV to travel up to 400 km (249 miles) and it only takes five minutes. Compared to Tesla's superchargers, that is twice as fast since the latter offers 500 kW charging speeds. BYD founder Wang Chuanfu announced in a livestream that the new technology charging network will begin across China first.
On top of that, he said BYD has plans to build over 4,000 fast-charging piles or units across the nation. That being said, the company hasn't come up with a specific time frame yet, nor how much is the investment to build the facilities. The new charging architecture will also be available in two new EVs which are the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV.
In Malaysia, BYD owners have been relying on third-party charging facilities in malls, stations, or their own charging units at home. We think there might be still a long way to go until the technology becomes available globally. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
