BYD invests ~RM6.16 billion to build EV manufacturing plant in Indonesia, will start operation in 2026

Indonesian Senior Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has announced that Chinese automaker BYD will start commercially producing electric vehicles in the country in 2026. Furthermore, BYD will be holding the groundbreaking ceremony of its manufacturing plant in Indonesia this July. 

As reported by the Indonesian portal Jakarta Globe, Luhut, however, has yet to reveal in which part of the country will the plant be. The Senior Minister lauded the Chinese automaker’s investment in the country, saying that the plant will begin commercial production in the country in early 2026. 

Earlier this year, Indonesia Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto asserted that BYD will invest USD1.3 billion or ~RM6.16 billion for the manufacturing plant.

Moreover, the facility is set to have an annual production capacity of 150k units. In the country, BYD has introduced 3 EVs, namely Seal, Atto 3, and Dolphin.
