BYD has launched its Level?4 “God’s Eye” autonomous parking feature starting from RM44700 (approx. RMB?69800). The company has also pledged to accept full responsibility for any damages that occur while using the feature. This move brings advanced tech to everyday EV buyers.

BYD’s liability move and parking autonomy

On 9 July 2025, BYD confirmed that its “God’s Eye” smart parking system in China has reached Level?4. This means cars can park themselves under certain conditions without any driver intervention.

Notably, BYD will take responsibility for damages during parking scenarios, allowing users to directly contact its after?sales team rather than filing insurance claims.

This positions BYD ahead of Tesla’s comparable features, as Tesla remains at Level?2 autonomy with its Autopark and Full Self?Driving (FSD) systems under limited use in China.

Tech Features and vehicle coverage

The “God’s Eye” system is offered in three versions:

  • God’s Eye C (entry-level): Equipped with 12 cameras, 5 mm?wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and Level?2+ autonomy. Supports remote valet parking and highway navigation.
  • God’s Eye B: Adds one LiDAR unit and enables urban navigation (Level?3 highway-ready).
  • God’s Eye A: Features three LiDARs and DiPilot 600 with up to 600 TOPS computing. It supports city and highway driving and is limited to premium Yangwang models.

As of February 2025, BYD offers the C version free on 21 of its 30 models, including budget models like Seagull and Qin Plus DM?i.

Why it matters

BYD’s approach aligns with its push to democratize smarter driving. Adding advanced driver assistance as standard on its models priced under RM44700 challenges Tesla’s strategy, which charges around RM40000 for FSD and remains at Level?2 in China.

Tesla’s system still requires active driver supervision and lacks fully autonomous parking. Its China rollout has faced delays due to regulatory and localization issues.

Meanwhile, BYD combines radar, cameras, and LiDAR with OTA updates and warranty backing, addressing key consumer concerns.
