Background noise soon to no longer be an issue with Google Meet

Video meeting has become the norm for many, with people now working from home due to restrictions in many countries. Of course, the increase in use means more people know what they want out of these apps and noise cancellation is one of them. Back in April, Google announced that noise cancellation would be coming to Google Meet and that update is just around the corner.

Google recently released a demo (thanks, VentureBeat) of the feature in action. In the video, Product Management Director of G Suite Serge Lachapelle showed what's called the 'denoiser', a feature that relies on machine learning to eliminate sounds that are not considered speech. The examples he gave include the sound you get from crinkling a bag of junk food, clicking of a pen, and the tinkling sound from a glass. He also confirmed that the feature will remove the sound of dogs barking or kids crying, which would be rather common to hear on video meetings now that so many of us work from home.

This is just the second out of four features that Google promised to add to Google Meet, after the increase to 16 users participants appearing on the tiled layout for the web version. Another useful feature that's still in the works would be low-light mode, which will make your videos look clearer even under poor lighting conditions.

Google hasn't given the exact release date for it yet, but it's expected to launch on the web version later this month. The Android and iOS apps will get it after that. With that said, what are your thoughts on the noise cancellation performance based on the demo video? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for other interesting tech news.
