Starting 15 July 2025, Bank Islam will officially replace SMS One-Time Passwords (OTP) with its BIMB Secure authentication system for all Card-i online transactions.
The upgrade comes at no additional cost, aiming to enhance security and streamline the user experience for customers in Malaysia.
What happened?
Bank Islam’s shift from SMS OTP to BIMB Secure is part of its ongoing digital transformation efforts. Instead of waiting for OTP codes via SMS, Card-i users will now use BIMB Secure through either the BIMB Mobile app or the BIMB Web platform to approve online transactions.
BIMB Secure provides a more secure and reliable method of authentication. It leverages real-time prompts within the bank’s official digital channels, reducing the risk of phishing or interception associated with SMS OTPs.
The system also supports biometric login, encrypted communication, and device-based approvals, enhancing both user convenience and cybersecurity.
This rollout follows Bank Islam’s earlier digital migration strategy. As of 28 June 2025, the bank officially discontinued support for legacy services like GO by Bank Islam and its previous internet banking platform.
More than 90 percent of users had already transitioned to the newer digital platforms before this deadline.
For Card-i holders, this means all e-commerce or online card transactions requiring authentication must now be approved through BIMB Secure.
Customers are encouraged to ensure they have the latest version of the BIMB Mobile app installed or access to BIMB Web via desktop browsers.
