Samsung recently demoed their brand new TouchWiz launcher at the Samsung Developer Conference, and it will be using the new Vulkan API. This has resulted in a 6% decrease in battery consumption, on basic tasks such as opening the app drawer or scrolling pages. Using this new launcher on a device with a battery of 3600mAh (like the Galaxy S7 Edge) will show an improvement of around 40 minutes extra for battery life.
The most important info is that as Google has already released the Vulkan API in the Android N preview, developers can squeeze out more performance from the chipset while keeping the power draw in check through optimized coding. While this brand new TouchWiz launcher is not ready for public release yet, it means that the next Android N could optimize battery life even better than before.
