Blood pressure monitoring feature may only come to the Apple Watch in 2024 at the earliest

Reliable tipster on everything Apple, Mark Gurman yesterday revealed that the tech giant is currently facing issues of inaccurate readings with its blood pressure monitoring technology. Gurman elaborated that Apple had planned to put the feature inside the upcoming Apple Watch, but the issue means that it has to be postponed.

Hence, the highly anticipated health feature will be absent from the Apple Watch Series 8 this September, or even in the Series 9. According to Gurman, the technology may only be ready in 2024 ‘at the earliest’.

Shared by Gurman through his column on Bloomberg, the tech insider said that sources close to the matter revealed that accuracy has been the main challenge during testing. This is despite Apple only planning to introduce the capability to alert users if they have hypertension as well as recommend talking with their doctor, and not provide specific blood pressure readings.

In the same article, Gurman also revealed that Apple is still ‘several years away’ from blood sugar monitoring capabilities on the Apple Watch. However, the serial tipster did say that Apple will be introducing new health features around sleep, fitness, women’s health and medication management in the Series 8 this year.

While Gurman has been consistently accurate in the past, do take these information with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet. We’ll just have to wait until the launch the Series 8 to find out I guess.
